The former AUCA students, who are still barred from travelling, are concerned with the fact that in their opinion the US diplomats will make no further efforts and will not fight for travel permits for the remaining one hundred young Turkmenistani residents.

    “Vatanym, Presidentim – Shokhratym, Shanym!” – a group of Turkmen students enrolled in the Belarus universities chanted as the Presidents of Belarus and Turkmenistan passed by. This incident occurred during the visit of the Turkmen leader to Minsk. The translation of this slogan is used in the title of this article.

    Financing of construction projects has been stopped not only in the Lebap velayat as was reported earlier but across the entire country. The only exceptions are the companies, which are immediate “partners” of the President in the construction business. They are fully financed.

    Two years ago the State Agency of management and use of hydrocarbon resources under the President of Turkmenistan opened a representation office in London. Dovlet Atabayev, Berdymukhamedov`s 35 y.o. son-in-law was appointed head of the agency.

    Reports have been confirmed that the Turkmen authorities granted travel permit to selected students of the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), whose names had been previously included in the list of those barred from travelling abroad (black lists).

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has issued a statement in connection with a biased report circulated on 5 February 2010 by certain Russian mass media, namely RIA Novosti agency, about an emergency landing at the airport of Ashgabat of an aircraft en-route from Kiev to Baku, and about difficulties that were allegedly created for the aircraft passengers.

    Turkmen officials went on a courting trip to Abu Dhabi early this month, hosting a forum there for potential investors. Following up on his vow to bring the country into line with international standards and to open up the economy to investment, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov sent a large retinue of ministers to the forum, who in turn mingled with a long list of representatives of foreign companies.
