Turkmen Foreign Ministry refutes RIA Novosti report 07.02.2010 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has issued a statement in connection with a biased report circulated on 5 February 2010 by certain Russian mass media, namely RIA Novosti agency, about an emergency landing at the airport of Ashgabat of an aircraft en-route from Kiev to Baku, and about difficulties that were allegedly created for the aircraft passengers.The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan stated that this report by RIA Novost is biased and distorts the reality.
In fact, Boeing-737 operated by the Ukrainian airline "Aerosvit", en-route from Kiev to Baku, made an emergency landing on 5 February 2010 at 9:11 p.m. (Ashgabat time) at the airport of the city of Turkmenbashi, which was selected at that time as a reserve one, due to bad weather at the airport of Baku.
All 90 passengers aboard the aircraft, including one child, as well as a crew of 6 people were received by the Turkmen side without obstruction and placed in the luxury hotel "Turkmenbashi". They were provided with hot meals and necessary living conditions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan stressed that the Turkmen side also provided all technical support to the aircraft and the flight will continue as weather conditions become favorable. |
